The Downtown
Merchants and Property Owners Association, Inc., (commonly referred to as
the Downtown Merchants Association or DMA) was chartered many years ago to
provide a framework for collaboration and positive action among the
businesses and property owners in Downtown Auburn, Alabama. Since
early 2009, the group has been refocused and recharged, and is stronger
than ever.
We have a good
relationship with the City of Auburn and we are recognized by folks in
groups all around the city as enthusiastic advocates for a stronger, more
vibrant downtown. Auburn is a great community, and with Auburn
University anchoring one end of our downtown, we know will always have a
good level of cultural and economic vitality in our neighborhood.
But that doesn't mean we are satisfied either.
Our group is
not driven by desperation, but rather vision. We know
that because of our proximity to AU our neighborhood will never hit the
"rock bottom" that spurs so many downtown programs. That being said,
we still think we have a long way to go for the neighborhood to reach it's
full potential.
We have members
that are on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, the
Downtown Redevelopment Authority, and the Auburn Arts Association.
To keep our neighborhood on the agenda as much as possible, our members
make regular reports and appearances before the Auburn's City Council and
Planning Commission, trying to keep them updated on our activities and
speaking about any issues that relate to downtown Auburn.
We work hard to
improve our neighborhood and make it a friendly, welcoming place for
everyone, and that includes hosting events throughout the year. As
our budget and sponsorship levels grow, we look forward to adding a few
more events or activities each year.
Thanks for
visiting us, and thanks for caring about downtown Auburn.
Sincerely,
The DMA Board
